The bottle cap sculptures are finished and installed!!!!! After the generous help of Mr. Gilley, one of our PE teachers (he dug the holes and sunk the "stems" for us) some of my second and third grade students helped to install the flowers today. The students did a fantastic job! While we were installing them today, we had many people stopping to look at them. There are a total of 18 flowers, three in each alcove of the school. Later on this month, volunteers are coming to place new mulch around them, and maybe add some real flowers as well. The front of our school is now very cheerful. They were a lot of work, but well worth it!
So fun! I love how they "pop" off the brick walls because of their bright colors! I have wanted to try doing something like this. Thanks for sharing, Love it!
ReplyDeleteHey Janet...they are just along the front of the school?
ReplyDeleteThey are only in the front of the school. They are cemented into the ground about a foot from the wall.

those are so wonderful! i always love your stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteI love these flowers. Can you post directions?
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are cut out of plywood, and then painted with whatever color you want. The children spent the year saving the bottlecaps, and we matched the colors of the caps to the paint. The students used tacky glue to glue the caps on, then I went back with screws and screwed each cap in place. Finally, I attached the flowers to 2x2 posts and cemented them in the ground.
ReplyDeleteI was totally inspired by these and have been doing them with my 5th grade Art Club-- they are finishing up gluing on the caps and I had a question about the screws you used to screw in each one...did you just use silver screws? Did that take away from the color/ design of the flowers? Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of paint did you use?
