I'm a little frustrated right now.....

I know that I haven't posted in a while, my friend Mr.E. likes to remind me about that, but I felt the need to post today. In my classroom, I have my paper area. I am very lucky that one of my parents works for a publishing company, and at least once a year I am lucky enough to receive a huge paper donation. This is the paper that I use for the "free draw" box. When the students are finished with their project, they are allowed to get free draw paper and draw whatever they want. Now comes the frustrating part. I have a box clearly labeled with "free draw" on it as shown below. But there are always at least 5 students in every class that always grabs the good drawing paper instead. I have discussed this numerous times with the students, and they all can tell me where the free draw paper is, but there are always a few that just won't do it. when I talk to them about it, they always respond with "oh, I didn't know". My question is how can I possibly make it any more obvious? I don't have the room to move the paper somewhere else, or to keep the good paper locked up. Grrrrr......

I just keep my good paper in a closet and only bring it out for specific projects. Watercolor paper is even more hidden.

Just read that again. Since you don't have another closet maybe put the good paper in one of those drawers and combine the other colors somehow.

Could you put the good paper in some time of bin that isn't see through and that's high on the sides so students can't reach over and grab? When I prep my lessons all of the supplies (that will fit) go into a bucket just for that lesson so students can't get to it. Best of luck! Sometimes, students just have a mind of their own and think nothing you say applies to them.

I put the free draw nearer to my desk/the door so there is a clear division of space-I lost my good watercolor paper to a substitute teacher this year, so I have gotten very fussy about my paper.

I'd say put it up high..but then you'd never be able to reach it! :)

Hi there-I would think that moving the free draw paper totally away from the other paper would work well, but another thing to consider is covering the cabinet (top and front) with a piece of fabric (not custom-made, just a big piece of blue or whatever fabric you have) and draping it over the front of the cabinet so the drawers are covered and the students can only access what is on top (ie. the free draw bucket you WANT them to use). It doesn't look perfect, but the specials teachers at one school I go to use this technique all over the place in the music/art room and the stuff underneath becomes invisible. It would be pretty awkward for a student to lift up the sheet and poke around under there...but you can always access the paper for prep/use. Good luck! Mrs. P @createartwithme.blogspot.com

I have had this problem. I have to keep mine hidden or in the closet. You could try to hide it under a colored plastic tub (rectangular, not clear or see through). You could turn the tub upside down on top of the paper and then just lift it up when you need paper. Good luck!

Ateliers, popular in the nineteenth century, teach emerging artists by pairing them with a master artist over a period of years. The educational process begins as students copy masterworks, then gradually progress to painting as their skills develop.

I really appreciated
